Health Bias in Fiction

by Ryan on December 8, 2005

I’m currently in the middle of reading many books, one of which is Inkspell by Cornelia Funke. It’s a fiction book written for a young adult audience.

Anyway, as I was reading, I came across this quote: “Pysicians! More than enough of them to cure a dozen men to death.” (Fenoglio, p. 247)

Whether it’s a view held by the author or not, I thought it was interesting that she should allude to her dislike of physicians.

Another interesting point: one of her supporting characters is Nettle, a natural healer.

You know doctors are getting a black eye when negativity about them seeps into popular fiction….
