Sign a Protest Letter at Vitamin Cottage

by Ryan on December 5, 2005

Back in February of this year (has it been that long?), I wrote about the possibility of it becoming illegal to purchase health supplements without a prescription. Well, guess what? The threat is still there.

The purpose of this post is to let you know of a very simple thing you can do to help stop this attack on our liberty.

First, have you heard of Vitamin Cottage? It’s a mini grocery store that specializes in vitamins, health supplements, and other healthy foods. We have a couple near where I live in south Denver.

Anyway, Vitamin Cottage has made it easy to protest these possible legal changes. Simply go to the Customer Service counter at one of their stores. They’ve prepared pre-written letters for you to sign in protest of the proposed laws. Just read the letter and, if you agree with it, sign it. Vitamin Cottage will mail the letter to the appropriate place for you.

During our last visit, both my wife and I signed letters of protest.

I really appreciate Vitamin Cottage for doing this because it makes it easy for me to express my opinion. It can be so difficult and time-consuming to get letters to the right politicians and legislators in the right branches of government. Vitamin Cottage has made it easy.

Of course, it’s in Vitamin Cottage’s best interest to provide this service. If the proposed laws pass, then Vitamin Cottage—and all health stores like it—could literally disappear overnight. So, please, if you have a Vitamin Cottage near you, take some time to sign a letter.

Have you read HR3156??? You should really read what something is about before you sign something that is against it. This is a bill that Susan Davis, D-CA is trying to pass and is backed by most democrats.
What they are after are these scams that promise weight loss from the use of chromium, PGX, Hoodia, etc. These items do nothing but rip the public off. Take a look at Dr. Phil, he is in the middle of a law suit for this reason. He should be supporting HR3156. Also they are after the sports/body building supplement industry. Creatine has caused many health issues in young athletes and is a precursor to steroid use. Creatine can stress the liver and kidney as well as cause perm. joint instability. It has also shown to cause excessive aggression.
Ephedra is a perfect example of unregulated supplements. Ephedra killed over 200 people and caused a huge number of strokes. This is what HR3156 is after, not regular safe supplements. The reason your Vitamin Cottage is all over marketing to oppose HR3156 is because their highest profits come from sports powders, and diet aids as well as Creatine products.
Chromium is marketed to help make blood sugars level, and is sold in many diet aid supplements. Chromium should not be taken by anyone who has normal blood sugar. It will cause a drop in blood sugar causing more cravings for foods. It can also cause dangerously low blood sugar levels. Chromium is also sold in the diabetes section and marketed as a supplement that diabetics should take. Diabetes is NOT a chromium deficiency disease, it is more complex than this and can cause problems in blood sugar for diabetics.
Please read and educate yourself. Vitamin Cottage has over 23 locations in Colorado and NM and soon to open in Texas. They are huge business and they aim to stay that way.
